The S.M.O.O.O.T.H. Initiative, aimed to launch in 2022 officially, will provide individuals and families in need with basic necessities, such as food, clothing, furniture, and essential household items in the Clemson, Houston, and Atlanta areas. All of the items are given away for free and are provided through generous donations from the local community.
Make a Donation
Donations of clothing, bedding, furniture, household items and supplies, small appliances, and unused personal hygiene items will be requested and dropped off at a centralized location. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for information on how you can drop off items at one of our temporary sites.
Items needed, but not limited to, will include:
Beds of all sizes, especially single beds
Household furniture - dining tables, sofas, coffee tables, chairs
Small appliances - microwaves, electric kettles, fans
Clothing - all types and sizes
Accessories - footwear, handbags, backpacks
Linens, towels, mats
Hygiene - shampoo, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, etc.
Based on client need and liability concerns, we are unable to accept:
Infant/child car seats, strollers, carriers and cribs
Sporting equipment - treadmills, weight lifting machines, golf clubs, etc.
Hospital/medical equipment - hospital beds, wheelchairs, crutches
Any musical instrument
Computers and related equipment, specialized electronics
We kindly ask that all donations be in good, working order without any visible damage to the items. We are unable to accept items that are broken, torn, dirty, rusted, or in need of repair because we do not currently have the staff or budget to refurbish them. Donations are distributed in current condition to consumers, so our members may decline a donation if, in their judgment, it is not in a clean, usable condition.
Please check all items for personal effects before donating as donations are often made available to clients within one day of the pick-up. In these cases, you may not be able to search for your personal effects because the donated item may no longer be in our possession.
Contact the S.M.O.O.O.T.H. Initiative before dropping off your donation or to schedule a donation pick-up at email@example.com. We will help you review which of your items we can and cannot accept. If we cannot accept your items, we will refer you to other community organizations that you can contact about donations.
If you are interested in receiving help through the S.M.O.O.O.T.H. Initiative, you must be referred to our program by a case manager or social worker at another social service agency or outreach program. The case manager/social worker must complete an intake application for you and submit verification of your household income to us.
If you do not have an agency to refer you, please call our office at firstname.lastname@example.org for a list of agencies that may be able to assist you.
